Cheap or frugal?
Do you take the soaps, teas and coffees home from the motels you stay in ? I do. I have stayed in so many motels in the last 18 months that I haven't bought soap for a very long time. I still have 9 small cakes of soap left and I have to travel away gain twice in the next month so I don't see this stopping any time soon.
I have lots of teas, coffee's, sugar and small packets of biscuits as well. I remember as a kid my mum used to do it and I thought it was cheap. Now that I have to pay all these bills, I've reconsidered and I think it's frugal.
Does anyone else do this?

I have to head out on an a extended trip in the morning. Made me think, maybe you should publish an address for people to send you soap donations and take care of the rest of 2008 and reduce your soap stress.
Definitely frugal! I do this too. Things like soaps and coffee are meant for the taking! I draw the line at people taking towels though, lol.
The hotels expect you to use or take them, and you're already paying for it.
Oh I had to laugh when I read this! I always do that! I take the soaps, and try and only use one bar soap so the other one stays packaged, and my husband thinks it's kind of creepy! lol We just stayed at a hotel last week and stayed up really late, I was tired and exhausted in the morning, and I STILL grabbed everything! And my response - it's being Frugal!
I do! I stockpile them for trips away to places where they don't have them so I don't need to take full sized version of things with me.
I don't think it's cheap... it's frugal!
I take them - and I also order freebies and samples online. I use them to donate to my churches Matthew 25 pantry - that helps people out. It's a little way to pay it forward.
We just got back from Walt Disney World and my husband brought back all of the soaps and shampoo/conditioners. I was a little concerned about the ethics, except that we were there for 8 days, and every day they gave us two new soaps and two new shampoos... even when we obviously hadn't opened the previous ones.
I figured at that point that they were meant to be souveniers.
It was hard leaving the cute towel animals there though.
Reading this post cracked me up ! LOL I alwys do this out of habit I guess. You never know when they will come in handy! LOL
I like to refill the little shampoo bottles with my own good quality shampoo and conditioner for next time. Unfortunately the bottles seem to be getting smaller and smaller!
definitely if I paid for it in my tariff -it;s mine to use or take home.
They do come in hnady for school /scout camps too.
I also had a giggle about this as I have a whole shelf in a cupboard dedicated to my 'hotel hauls'! I spent most of 2005, 2006 and 2007 in hotels with my job so have quite a collection.
I don't take the coffee or tea but ALWAYS take the shampoos and body washes and soaps if they are nicely packaged. I figure if I have paid for the room then they are part of the tariff.
They come in handy for camping or if you stay with friends and don't want to lug full sized products.
As I am now trying to be more frugal (travel job over) I am now using up some of my supplies which has a double benefit - I save money and free up some cupboard space!
